Should religious education even be taught be in schools because of the diverse society we live in? Good article :)

  1. In some aspects I do believe religious studies plays an important role in helping young people understand core principles of world religions, just so they have a basic understanding of what they are about and perhaps why they have such a powerful effect upon those who believe in a religion. Also by teaching about religion, young people are able to make their own judgments about what religion means to them.

However from my own experience of RE lessons, I do not believe this subject should be considered a major subject within schools, because I personally held the view that religion wasn’t important, and therefore wasn’t interested in my religious studies lessons. So in my opinion, I believe that it should be an optional subject.

  2. Should religious education focus on teaching a particular perspective (e.g. Britain is a predominantly Christian community) or a mixture of different perspectives ... even though Berger argues that this will undermine faith overall?
